Mayor Rob Ford and his brother councillor Doug Ford will have their final weigh-in at city hall this morning, ending their six-month public weight loss challenge.

Since launching in January, the “Cut the Waist” challenge has not been without controversy, as each Ford brother pledged to drop 50 pounds by June 18. The Mayor, who was losing a lot of weight at first, began cancelling weekly weigh-ins, ultimately pulling out and continuing his diet in private, starting in May.

Surrounded by the press, special guests, and a one-time visit from PETA’s Lettuce Ladies, at the last public weigh-in, mayor Ford was down 16 pounds, and Doug Ford lost a total of 28 pounds.

The Blue Jays sweep the Phillies

After losing six games of seven, and three starting pitchers in four games, the Toronto Blue Jays swept the Philadelphia Phillies with a 6-2 win on Sunday.

Left-hander Brett Cecil returned to Toronto to hold the Phillies to just five hits and two runs. Prior to Sunday’s game, Cecil, a former Jays starter, spent his season in the minor leagues. The Blue Jays scored six runs, five of them earned, including two on a home run from the scrappy Colby Rasmus.

Sunday’s win brings the Blue Jays record to 34-32. The Jays, who start their road trip with a game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night, are 6-6 against the National League this season.

Carly Rae Jepsen takes home three MMVAs

I wasn’t looking for this, but now it’s in my way! “Call Me Maybe” singer Carly Rae Jepsen was the big winner at the MuchMusic Video Awards on Sunday night, taking home three trophies, the most of any artist.

Jepsen, whose song just hit number one on the Billboard Top 100 in the U.S., won the awards for Video of the Year, MuchMusic.com’s Most Watched Video, and UR Fave Video of the Year, all for, you guessed it, “Call Me Maybe.” Not too shabby for a video shot in Sept. 2011, with the help of a VideoFACT grant.

While accepting the the fan-centric UR Fave Video of the Year award, Jepsen said, “Thank you to the fans for this, this one’s amazing.” Just delightful.
