Another Jays’ pitcher exits with an injury

Two of the Toronto Blue Jays’ starting pitchers have succumbed to injury in the past three games, as Kyle Drabek left Wednesday’s game in the fifth inning with soreness in his surgically-repaired right elbow.

Earlier this week, on Monday, Brandon Morrow left the game after nine pitches, thanks to a strained muscle in his left side. Morrow is now on the 15-day disabled list.

Similarly, Drabek is expected to undergo additional tests to see the impact of his strain next Wednesday. Having had Tommy John surgery in 2007 as a minor leaguer, he told reporters he felt a “popping sensation in the back of his elbow.” In brighter news, Jose Bautista hit his 19th home run for Toronto, during Wednesday’s 6-2 loss.

The Jays, who suffered three games of back-to-back losses at the hands of the Washington Nationals, have fallen bellow .500 for the first time this season, with a record of 31-32.

Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” is number one on the U.S. Billboard charts

Here’s my number, so play me always! The incredibly charming and catchy “Call Me Maybe” has hit number one on the U.S. Billboard charts, giving Canadian songstress Carly Rae Jepsen her first top-of-the-chart hit on the Top 100.

Boosted by the viral sensation of Justin Bieber’s sing-a-long dance party four months ago, and the legions of parody videos since, the track finally hit number one, dethroning Gotye’s Somebody I Used to Know,” the reigning eight-week champion.

The bulletproof, lovable pop classic has probably been in your head for most of its pop culture rule, but check out the latest mash-up version, with Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life,” or our DailyCableTV favourite, the version with Jepsen, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots. After all, if ?uestlove says the song needs more cowbell, he can’t be wrong.

Magnotta: DNA confirms body parts belong to Jun Lin

Police have confirmed that the severed hands and feet mailed to two Vancouver schools, and Ottawa’s political party headquarters, match the DNA of the Chinese student dismembered in Montreal.

This news follows the German statement that Luka Rocco Magnotta, the suspect who allegedly killed and dismembered the Chinese student in question, Jun Lin, is nearing his extradition back to Canada. In order for the moving process to be executed successfully, Montreal detectives were waiting to verify the victim’s body parts in question did in fact belong to Lin.

Montreal detectives had been sure the body parts mailed across the country belonged to Lin, the victim of one of Canada’s most gruesome slayings, but were waiting for confirmation by laboratory analysis.

“All the body parts that were found – the torso in Montreal, the foot and hand in Ottawa, the foot and hand in Vancouver – are from the same body, that of Mr. Lin,” said Cmdr. Ian Lafreniere, a Montreal police spokesman, on Wednesday evening.

Magnotta, arrested last week in Berlin, is facing charges of first-degree murder for Lin’s unusual, and gruesome death.
