Students planning to travel using the TTC will soon be able to carry around one less piece of plastic.
Starting on Monday, September 1, the Toronto Transit Commission will no longer require middle and secondary school students to carry TTC-issued ID when they purchase a discounted fare. Instead, students who are between the ages of 16 and 19 will only need to show a piece of government-issued ID or a piece of ID issued by their school.
Unfortunately, post-secondary students will still be forced to carry around the extra piece of plastic.
The TTC’s press release didn’t give much in the way of reasoning for the move. However, one imagines that the city’s students will appreciative of the move nonetheless; as for those of that haven’t set foot in a school in ages, the move should save us from having to watch one more awkward exchange between a streetcar driver and a student that “forgot” their ID.
