Toronto is now home to the world’s hippest book vending machine. The Biblio-Mat, located at the Monkey’s Paw – 1229 Dundas St. West – dispenses used books for only $2.
The handsome vending machine, which recalls a vintage Penguin softcover, was made by Craig Small, he of local animation studio the Juggernaut, and store owner Stephen Fowler. Unlike a traditional vending machine, however, there’s no element of choice here. Instead, after inserting a Toonie into it, the Biblio-Mat will dispense a random book from the 100 or so it holds at any one time. Therefore, there’s the chance you either get a book you love or one that you hate, but, hey, for only $2, there’s not much to lose. [Design Taxi]
