Strange(r) People is a monthly series where we photograph and interview regular Torontonians going about their daily lives. This month, we visited Toronto’s Festival of Beer to see what attendees thought of the festival and the beer on display.
What’s the best beer you’ve had at the festival so far?
Beau’s Brewing Company’s Kissmeyer Nordic Pale Ale
What do you look for in a beer?
A nice hoppy taste, a higher IBU and a clean finish.
What’s your favourite local brew?
Flying Monkeys’ Hoptical Illusion Almost Pale Ale
What your favourite place to have a beer?
My backyard.
What do you think of the festival?
I love it. This is the third year in a row that I’ve come to the festival.
What’s the best beer you’ve had at the festival so far?
Triple Bogey. It was the coldest.
What do you look for in a beer?
At a festival like this I like my beer to be cold.
But usually I’m an IPA kind of a guy. I like the hops.
What’s your favourite local brew?
Creemore Springs.
What’s your favourite place to have a beer?
The Portly Piper Pub in Ajax.
What do you think of the festival?
This is the third year in a row that I’ve come to the festival, but the first time I’ve checked it out on a Sunday. So far I like it. It’s a different vibe from Saturday.
What’s the best beer you’ve had at the festival so far?
Side Launch Brewing Company’s Pale Ale
What do you look for in a beer?
I like a lighter beer.
What’s your favourite local brew?
Kensington Brewing Company’s Fruitstand Watermelon Wheat.
What’s your favourite place to have a beer?
On a patio.
What do you think of the festival?
It’s been awesome so far, though I wish I had more tokens.
What’s the best beer you’ve had at the festival so far?
The Stiegl we have in our dressing room is pretty good.
What do you look for in a beer?
I’m a fan of bitter pilsners.
What’s favourite local brew?
I like Lone Star. It’s a brewery in Austin, Texas (Gordie is a Canadian ex-pat who lives in Austin). It predates most of the of the other micro breweries in North America. They use local San Antonio spring water for their beer.
What’s your favourite place to have a beer?
There’s a place in Austin called C-Boy’s Heart and Soul. It’s a dive bar on South Congress. They never have a band playing there, so you can go to the turntable and put on any record you like.
What do you think of the festival?
It’s our second year in a row playing the festival, and it’s one of our favourites.
What’s the best beer you’ve had at the festival so far?
Flying Monkeys.
What do you look for in a beer?
Heather: I like a light beer.
Mark: I like a beer with more hops.
What’s your favourite local brew?
Heather: We both love Mill Street Organic.
What’s your favourite place to have a beer?
Heather: I think we’re both in a agreement when I say we love having a beer on a patio.
What do you think of the festival?
It has been a great experience so far!
