Rob Ford has been moved to Mount Sinai Hospital for additional testing and treatment of the tumour that was discovered in his abdomen on Wednesday. 

The move was precipitated to take advantage of the downtown hospital’s greater expertise in radiology and cancer treatment. Dr. Zane Cohen, the doctor in charge of the medical team taking care of Ford, said he wouldn’t comment on the severity of Mayor Ford’s illness until he and his team had more information to work with. The hospital performed a biopsy on the mass in Ford’s abdomen. However, it will take at least a week until the results of that procedure are known.

According Dr. Cohen, “[Mr Ford is] resting comfortably. He has some pain. We are giving him some pain medication for that. He’s surrounded by family members, and that’s about it—we are still in a holding pattern.”

The timing of the incident couldn’t have come at worst time for Ford; the deadline for mayoral candidates to decide whether to stay or leave the race is today. [via Toronotist]
