New website lets Toronto voters compare potential ward councillors
”We want to make an informed vote easier to cast – and help Toronto voters feel confident about their choices for who should represent their interests.”

Making an informed decision on who to vote for in the mayoral election is hard work; making an informed decision on who to vote for in one’s ward is even harder. Thankfully, a new website called Position Primer is attempting to make that important decision a lot easier to make.

Position Primer was created by the Women in Toronto Politics group—they of #WiTOPoli Twitter fame. The website compares potential council candidates on issues like transportation, taxation and poverty.

The group created the website by sending surveys to each candidate, asking them to write where they stand on 10 different issue in 500 characters or less. They then tirelessly followed up with each candidate to ensure that the website’s database was as complete as possible prior to launch. “We want to make an informed vote easier to cast – and help Toronto voters feel confident about their choices for who should represent their interests,” says a part of their website. “By gathering the positions of as many candidates as possible in one place, the Position Primer cuts down on the time and energy needed to learn about your options.”

For those that are unsure what ward they reside in, Position Primer even has a handy field where one can input their postal code and the website spits out the correct ward. In other words, there’s no reason not to cast an informed vote this election. For those unsure of who to vote for in the mayoral election, there’s even a website that helps with that decision, too.
