According to a new poll conducted by Mainstreet Technologies, Doug Ford is continuing to gain ground on John Tory.
The flag bearer for Ford Nation saw his support increase by seven percentage points. That means he currently has 30 per cent of likely voters ready to vote for him on October 27th.
Although Tory still leads the poll with 37 per cent of likely voters saying they will vote for him come election day, he actually saw his support drop by three percentage points over the last week.
Meanwhile, Olivia Chow’s campaign continues to flounder. She currently has 21 per cent of voters committed to voting for her. Unfortunately, with Doug Ford’s gaining ground, she might see many of her supporters decide to vote strategically to avoid another Ford mayoralty.
In the press release that accompanied the results of the poll, Quito Maggi, president of Mainstreet Technologies, said, “Tory’s numbers are solid across Toronto, particularly among those voters most likely to vote. His challenge will be to sustain support until October 27th. At this stage, Olivia Chow has taken a back seat. As Ford appears to pick up steam, she must find a way to keep her supporters from strategic voting,”
Caveats about small sample sizes aside, is anyone else scared that this might turn in to a close race? [via Global TV]
