Doug Ford released his subway plan yesterday and, folks, it’s a doozy.
Like his brother’s plan, it calls for the city to build an additional 32 kilometres of subway tunnel at cost of $9-billion. Where it differs from Rob’s plan is that a series of unfortunate typos made it into the final copy. Don Mills is mislabelled as “Done Mills,” and Eglinton and Eglinton West see themselves transformed into “Eglington” and “Eglington West,” respectively.
Typos aside, what is perhaps most egregious about his plan is that Ford does not present a realistic way to fund his fantasy. He told a group of reporters yesterday that he hopes to the expansion by selling off more of the city’s property through Build Toronto. Build Toronto, an organization which Doug Ford is currently vice-chair of, has only managed to sell one piece of city-owned property since the start of 2013.
Ultimately, with Toronto projected to become one of the most crowded cities in the world, this city needs better proposals from all its politicians. [Source: Toronto Star. Via blogTO]
