After missing several debates—and not to mention almost missing the chance to fill his candidacy papers—Doug Ford is finally set to appear in his first mayoral debate.
He’ll be debating fellow mayoral candidates Olivia Chow and John Tory at York Memorial Collegiate at 7:30 p.m.
In an interview with the CBC, Tory said of Ford’s upcoming appearance, “It’s another debate, it will have an added element in a new candidate coming to the table. He’s not really new though and I think people will be able to see in sharp relief the difference between us, especially in regards to trying to create a city that is united and trying to go forward positively.”
After tonight’s debate goes down, there will be an additional 30 more debates between now and October 27th’s election, including one that will be hosted by Fucked Up’s Damian Abraham.
A poll that was conducted on Sunday found that Tory had a 15 point lead over Doug. A more recent poll shows that gap widening further in favour of Tory—that said, the company that conducted the poll, Nanos Research, surveyed less than half the individuals that Mainstreet Technologies did in their poll. Of course, all that might change after tonight’s debate, and we could be in for a more drama filled lead up to election day.
We’ll update this article once we find out if there’s a way for people to watch the debate online. [via CBC]
