Our weekend profile of Jeremy Laing was so much-read we can only assume you want to know more. Herewith, seven things you probably didn’t know about the important, and adored, designer.
1. He harbours a deep, semi-secret love of karaoke.
2. His favourite vacation place is also a rare and super-swaggy indulgence: Parrot Cay Resort in the Turks & Caicos.
3. Once, when a local publication ran a cover story Laing (and many) found both personally and politically offense, he pulled his own scheduled cover from the following issue. I think they call that “integrity.”
4. He eats muffins. The full-fat kind.
5. His first Toronto show, in 2002, featured military, recycled clothes on all boys. At the time, he said he just couldn’t be bothered to deal with girl models. (This was ages before Marc Jacobs was on the cover of Industrie in drag, P.S.)
6. As a child living in Europe, he spent weekends going to castles and cheese factories. No big.
7. Last year, he went to a Paris Fashion Week party wearing a camouflage ball of yarn (at least, that’s what it looked like) from an army surplus store in New York. He does not seem to be embarrassed about this.
