After a two-week long investigation, a Liberal staffer has been exposed as Vikileaks, Public Safety Minister Vic Toews’ twitter nemesis. This embarrassment leaves the Grits, well, red in the face.
The Liberals previously campaigned on a slogan of, “No dirty tricks, Mr. Harper,” and are currently up in arms over the robo-call Conservative campaign scandal.
Pot, meet kettle.
Earlier this month, the Twitter account @Vikileaks30 published tawdry personal details of the minister’s sexual dalliances and divorce in retaliation against a new online surveillance bill, Bill C-30, tabled by Toews. The Twitter account was shut down after four days.
Bill C-30 has come under fire from political opposition and political pundits, including Rick Mercer, who profiled the “invasive” bill in a rant last week.
Once the Vikileaks IP address was traced to a Parliamentary staff account, bawdy Conservatives, like Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, were quick to point their fingers at the NDP. Baird has since apologized, but it was only a matter of time before – wait for it – the culprit was caught red-handed.
Interim Liberal leader Bob Rae has apologized on behalf of the outed Liberal staffer, Adam Carroll. Carroll has since resigned.
According to Rae, Carroll gave a, “heartfelt apology,” and followed by #tellingviceverything.
