How much do two scandalized mayors weigh? Apparently not enough to break the ice, which will soon be used to host the world junior hockey championships in both Toronto and Montreal in 2015 and 2017. According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, the 2015 tournament will see Montreal host the preliminary round and Toronto hosting the medal round. Then it’s reversed in 2017 with Montreal getting hosting the medal round and the preliminary round played in Toronto.
Both cities will benefit from the box-office boom, and likewise the tournament will benefit from the high concentration of media outlets, tourist accommodations, and sports facilities in the two cities. The Chistmas holiday tournament should be a big draw for hockey fans from around Canada, and North America in general. Canada will also be hosting the 2019 and 2021 tournaments, after the 2014 tourney in Malmo, Sweden.
