“No one’s going to read a comic strip about a strongman in tights, Joe, it’ll never fly”
After almost a ten year absence from national television, the Heritage Minute is set to return on October 15. Next week, The Historica-Dominion Institue, the group responsible for the care and preservation of the minutes, is set to release a brand new sixty second spot on their website. In the meantime, the institute has asked that Canadians visit their Facebook page and vote for their favourite Heritage Minute – which, it must be said, is difficult since so many of them are excellent.
The Heritage Minute started airing in 1991, and was the brainchild of Canadian producer Patrick Watson. Since their inception, the minutes have covered a wide range of historical topics, including Canadian accomplishments in the arts, war, politics, and sports. What unifies the disparate group of videos is excellent production, some famous Canadian actors, and the ability to tell an inspiring story in sixty seconds or less. Below, I’ve embedded some of my favourites, and while we’re at it, please share some of your favourites as well. [CBC]
