Three women were sexually assaulted in Toronto on Monday. In separate attacks, two women were assaulted at knife-point in the Avenue Road and Lawrence Avenue West area, and a teenage girl was assaulted in the Broadview and Danforth Avenue areas.
In the first case, 680 News reports a man posed as a door-to-door newspaper subscription salesperson, and forced his way into the midtown home around 10 a.m. Armed with a knife, the suspect sexually assaulted two women, ages 25 and 30, and was wounded in the process. He later fled the scene on foot, and one of the women was taken to the hospital.
Police tell CityNews the suspect is white, approximately 5’10 to 6″, with dark, short hair. The man was unknown
Later that evening, a teenage girl was threatened by a man holding a knife. At around 9 p.m., the suspect forced her into an alleyway north of Broadview subway station, near Browning Avenue, and she was sexually assaulted.
The teen was later taken to hospital. 680 News reports the suspect is described as being a white male in his 40s, who was wearing a button-up-style shirt and black sweat pants.
Canadarm Google Doodle
In lighter news, Canadarm! Google.ca’s signature doodle is celebrating the launch of the Canadarm, which had its first mission 31 years ago Tuesday.
The Canadian Press writes Google’s chief doodler, Ryan Germick, chose the event out of “hundreds” of ideas, and said it took “several tens of hours” to complete. According to Germick, the Canadian Google offices are the brains behind the suggestion.
“For doodles we really try to sort of celebrate things that are exciting to Google as a culture and we think will be exciting for our users,” said Germick, to the Canadian Press.
The Canadarm kicked off its first mission on Nov. 13, 1981, on the U.S. space shuttle Columbia.
Barbara Walters vs. Lindsay Lohan
Barbara Walters is “disappointed” that Lindsay Lohan cancelled a highly-anticipated interview with her for ABC’s 20/20, only to grant an interview to family-friendly Jay Leno days later.
The Hollywood Reporter writes Walters discussed the snub on Monday’s edition of The View, which she co-hosts. According to Walters, the reason for cancellation given by Lohan’s publicist was not sufficient.
“If they’d said to me, ‘You know, Barbara, she isn’t up to the kind of questions you might ask’ — though most of them were comparing her to Elizabeth Taylor: both child stars, both aggressive mothers, etc., then it would have been a wonderful interview,” said Walters. “She could have set the record straight. If they had told me that, I wouldn’t feel quite as disappointed as I do today.”
What’s your take? Did Lohan make the right move? The Liz & Dick star is set to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Nov. 20, and was originally scheduled to sit down with Walters for this Friday’s edition of 20/20.
