Year’s busiest travel day
Pearson International Airport will not look like this today…
Heading home for the holidays? You’re not alone.
An estimated 105,000 flyers will pass through Pearson International Airport on Friday Dec. 21, making it the year’s busiest travel day, according to the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.
680 News reports almost two-million people will pass through the airport this holiday season before reaching their destination.
These numbers amount to a large percentage of Toronto Pearson’s traffic. The airport handled 33.4 million passengers in 2011.
Marineland mass animal graves probed
The Ontario Environment Ministry will start excavating Marineland’s mass animal graves on Friday, as part of a probe into the site’s practices, the Toronto Star reports.
Ministry spokesperson Kate Jordan told the Star Marineland equipment will be used, but the provincial officials will determine where and how deep the test pits will be dug.
Earlier this year, the Niagara Falls tourist attraction came under fire after a series of Star investigations questioned the treatment of its on-site marine animals. Former Marineland staffers described potential problems and lasting environmental effects of four mass graves at the park. Nearby groundwater and soil levels will also be tested during the excavation.
Allegedly, whales, dolphins, seals and walruses, and the site’s land animals are buried at the site, but Marineland has no permits for disposing dead animals.
