Ford appointments under fire

Mayor Rob Ford’s alleged list of preferred candidates for citizen agency positions has come under fire, according to the Toronto Star.

The assistants of councillors Giorgio Mammoliti, Michael Thompson and Jaye Robinson were all sent “the mayor’s choices for shortlisting tomorrow,” prompting city ombudsman Fiona Crean to question the appointment process.

Councillor, and former civic appointments chair, Janet Davis, told the Star that the list being sent at all suggests a breach of a cronyism-free hiring system, even if it was never accessed.

Was this hiring process compromised?

Ski season in Ontario

Toronto may have seen a small share of snow thus far, but Southern Ontario ski and snowboard resorts officially kicked off their seasons this weekend.

Horseshoe Valley Resort, Mount St. Louis Moonstone and Snow Valley were among the resorts that opened its doors to visitors. However, 680 News reports some resorts had a small selection of runs open due to the mild winter weather.

With more hills expected to open soon, when are you planning to hit the slopes?

12-12-12 Benefit Concert: Biggest ever?

Close to two billion people will be able to watch the 12-12-12 benefit concert for the victims of Superstorm Sandy, as its global distribution across the TV, web and radio will be on par with the Super Bowl and the Oscars.

The Hollywood Reporter writes the concert could be the most widely distributed live musical event ever, featuring artists like the Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, and more.

The concert will be available on YouTube, AOL, Yahoo and Hulu livestreams, in addition to its television and radio live broadcasts.

Celebrity presenters, including Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Kristen Stewart and Chelsea Clinton, are also scheduled to attend the blockbuster benefit.
