They want our poutine, our Prime Minister and our petrochemicals, and they’re willing to shout it from the editorial pages of the Tribune. Chicago’s caught the Canuck bug and we can’t say we blame them.
In a Monday editorial, the Chicago daily had (almost) nothing but praise for a long list of Canadian influences taking over the windy city. Poutine has taken centre stage at some of Chicago’s hottest restaurants, they love our regulated banks, our universal healthcare, our booming housing market and how we handle our debt. They envy our natural resources, our low gun crime, and even respect our Prime Minister (at least those that know anything about him) for the trade ties he’s forstered with China and Canada’s proposed free trade agreement with the European Union. And while we may not hold quite as much esteem for Harper ourselves, we can’t help but agree that Canadians make the best hockey players–just look at how well the Blackhawks are doing with a Canadian coach and a team chock-full of Canadian players.
So thanks Chicago, we love our oil, our bagels, and our double-doubles too. And we’re happy to share.
