Earlier today, Kanye West visited Ellen to premiere the much-anticipated video for “Bound 2,” a highlight from his controversial and challenging album, Yeezus. For some listeners, “Bound 2” was a welcome reprieve from Yeezus’s relentless committment to a progressive, pulsating sound filled with dramatic and divergent sonic interludes, so this video comes with some big expectations.
The video opens in the mountains and shows us a colllection of white horses running through water, Kanye rapping in a flannel shirt on top of a plaid one (!), Kanye rapping in a ripped tee, Kanye rapping with his fiancĂ©, Kim Kardashian, clutching him tenderly, and Kanye rapping while seemingly simulating sex with a topless Kim as his motorcycle roars through the cosmos, amongst other memorable images. It’s odder than it sounds, and, of course, compulsive viewing. If you don’t dig it, you can always pretend this fantastic rendition of the song on Late Night with JImmy Fallon is the official video.
And shhhhh. If you’re really quiet, you can hear the sounds of Ray J’s thirsty wails from Los Angeles.
