Say What: Adam Sandler on Bambi, Kevin James on the Brass Rail, and Selena Gomez on Overprotective Parents
We bring you the best quotes from the stars of TIFF 2012

Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Molly Shannon, and Fran Drescher answered questions — cracking up the media and themselves- at the press conference for Hotel Transylvania early this afternoon. Here are the best of their answers.

On finding their inner ‘monster’ voice:

Sandler: “It was a very scary process; I went through a lot of options. Ultimately, I said, oh, I’ll just do a little twist on the Zohan, and that’s it.”

Drescher: “I’m glad I’ve figured out how to monetize [my voice].”

On getting the part:

Spade: “I got a script in the mail, read it, and said I’d love to play Dracula… and Adam said go to page 56, it’s highlighted, give it your normal 80%… and I said, of course!” (Spade actually plays The Invisible Man; Sandler plays Dracula.)

James: “I didn’t want to do it, but Adam’s got some naked pictures of me outside of McDonald’s and threatened to show my wife.”

On their experiences with Toronto:

Spade: “We did the Tommy Boy movie up here, we did it all up here, and it was great. It’s one of my favourite movies.”

James: “In summary, David went to the Brass Rail nightly.”

Samberg: “I’m on the fence about Canada, I don’t know. We’ll have to see… we’ll have to see…”

On the first movie they ever saw:

Gomez: Seed of Chucky. I think I was probably nine.”

James: “I snuck into Saturday Night Fever… when John Travolta took two slices of pizza and ate them together, I thought that was the coolest move ever. I adopted it and made it my own.”

Sandler: Bambi killed me as a kid; I liked all the sweet ones. Dumbo and Bambi, those were big.”

On overprotective parents:

Gomez: “Yes, they’re very [protective]. I just turned 20 and I still live at home, by choice. It’s good, but we’ve had ups and downs.”

Sandler: “Do they ever yell at you and say ‘GET A JOB!’?”

On working with Selena Gomez:

Sandler: “It’s a big deal for all of us that Selena’s in the movie. We get to tell our kids that we know her. It was just amazingly exciting to be in a car with my kids and tell them Selena was going to be playing Mavis. You say Selena’s name in front of my kids’ friends and they just stop in their tracks.”
