On Wednesday, the City of Toronto and Scotiabank announced the full lineup for Nuit Blanche 2014.
The annual all-night art festival will take place on October 4. This year’s Nuit Blanche is set to have 400 artists exhibiting a total of 120 installations. Moreover, some of the installations will be created by artists from outside of Toronto, and perhaps best of all, the City itself is set to curate 48 installations, the most it’s ever done.
All told, the ninth iteration of Toronto’s Nuit Blanche will be the city’s biggest yet, though whether that’s a good thing remains to be seen. After a promising start, much of the discussion around Nuit Blanche has been more negative than positive: we’ve all had friends complain how over-hyped and disappointing the exhibits have become. One hopes that the event’s organizers and artists will be able to rekindle some of the night’s past magic; after all, on paper, an all-night art festival is an amazing idea.
