2009 Prà Soave Classico, Veneto, Italy $19.95 (Imported by: The Vine, Rob Groh Agency, http://www.robgroh.com)
Prà is a solid and reliable name in the Soave DOC, and this ’10 classico is a fine, fresh, lively lemon-lime-blossom scented example. Pear and nectarine flavours play out on the palate; components are nicely balanced and texture pleasantly creamy without sacrificing freshness. Lingering finish. This should appeal widely. Best: 2012-2015. Serving temp.: 10ºC. Pairing: Seafood risotto, octopus salad.
2010 Perrin et Fils Côtes du Rhône Blanc Réserve, Rhône Valley, France $14.95 #499509
A blend of Grenache blanc, viognier, marsanne and roussanne, this is a wines of modest aromatic intensity, though the palate offers decent depth and weight. There’s a fine range of ripe white peach and lightly honeyed-toasted beeswax flavours, leading to a pleasant lingering finish. An easy-drinking, gentle style wine all around, and yet another fine value white from Perrin. Best: 2012-2013. Serving temp.: 8º-9ºC. Pairing: pre-dinner sipping; mozzarella di buffala.
