No matter where you turn for in the next few weeks, you’re bound to see Ron Burgundy. That’s because Paramount Pictures is trotting out the character immortalized by Will Ferrell in 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and seared into your brain by incessant movie-quoting douchebros everywhere thereafter to a locai news casts, sporting events, and college campuses across the globe in an attempt to dominate the zeitgeist with virality through sheer brute force.
For instance, earlier this weekend, Ferrell as Burgundy co-anchored Bismarck, North Dakota’s KX12 CBS News alongside Amber Schatz. The results were comic, if only for Ferrell’s fearless and obsessive committment to character and improvisational abilities.
Burgundy capped his weekend by lending his broadcast talents to TSN for the Tim Horton’s 2013 Roar of the Rings curling event, an Olympic qualifier.
And if that’s not enough left-of-centre promotion for you, Emerson College is temporarily naming their School of Communications the “Ron Burgundy School of Communications” for the day on Wednesday. Burgundy is unavoidable. Give in to his will now while you still have the chance, because when this movie is released, there’s a good chance we’ll be stuck hearing a series of the movie’s obtuse catchphrases and quotes for another nine years.
Whatever. At least we have Drizzy’s cameo to look forward to.
