In today’s WTF news: Mayor Ford wants you to pay for his legal bills. Seriously.
Earlier this year, Ford faced charges for allegedly violating city council’s code of conduct prohibiting the “improper use of influence” and the acceptance of gifts and benefits “connected directly or indirectly” with the performance of council duties.
Ford “narrowly” won his appeal, in what a Divisional Court panel deemed was “not an outright victory.” Even after all the controvery, he did the same thing again, only three days after he won the appeal that almost got him booted from office.
Taking a page from Zach Braff, Ford is now considering asking you – taxpayers – to help foot his legal bill of $116,000. He plans on doing so through – get this – a series of fundraisers. The plan is apparently approved, in writing, by the Integrity Commissioner. This brilliant idea coming to you from the same man who voted, in the name of the people, against revenue tools (read: taxes) to help fund things we actually need…LIKE TRANSIT.
Think Ford’s a Destiny’s Child fan? Would you shell out a couple of bucks to support the city’s mayor? Oh hell no.
