Artist Viktor Mitic uses a gun as his paintbrush

Mitic’s works

Controversial and renown Serbian-Canadian artist, Viktor Mitic has shot at Jesus Christ, John F. Kennedy, and Marilyn Monroe, but only for the sake of his art. The truly unique artist uses rapid blasts from an M-14, AR-16 and hand pistols to outlines his paintings leaving smoking bullet holes in his wake.

“There is an uneasiness in people and their perception of weapons,” says Mitic. “Since they are made for one purpose only – to kill. I use weapons to re-create iconic images.”

Now, Mitic has created a bullet-riddled rendition of the Battle of Queenston Heights, the first major battle in the War of 1812. Using a hand pistol, the flamboyant and socially aware artist has outlined images of opposing soldiers. Entitled, Eighteen Twelve, each bullet hole evokes a sense of juxtaposing emotions: violence and tranquility.

Below is a short documentary that talks about his “Bullet Painting” series (where he shot paintings of Jesus Christ, Buddha, JFK, John Lennon etc.), and gives you a deeper understanding of his method and the effect it leaves on viewers.
